Who makes Empty Bowls a success? VOLUNTEERS!

Without the hundreds of volunteers who support our events, we would never be able to assist in combating food insecurity in Monongalia County.

Who do we need? YOU!

No matter what your talents and strengths, there is a place for you at Empty Bowls!

When do we need you?

  • February for the Soup and Bread Luncheon

  • October for the Fall Fun Raiser

  • Year Round: educational activities with local kids, event planning, grant writing, mailing campaigns, and public relations.

Our biggest single day of volunteer need is during our annual Soup and Bread Luncheon which occurs the last Saturday in February. The event is held at Mylan Park and requires 500 individual volunteers!

Are there other ways to be involved?

  • If you’re familiar with Empty Bowls, talk about us! Word of mouth is the number one way people find out about our mission.

  • Are you a potter? Throw us some hand-made bowls. Numerous studio potters, ceramics programs, and students under the leadership of ceramics instructors throw and paint bowls for us each year.

  • Are you an artist or crafter? Contribute a piece of your art for one of our auction initiatives

  • Are you another local group or club? If you’d like to associate your event with Empty Bowls by contributing an entrance fee or other type of collection, we are honored. In the past, these types of events have included

    • Linda Hall’s Turkish Bazaar

    • Harley Davidson Chili Cook-Offs

    • Lennon Thing concerts at Gene’s

    • Al Bonner’s Birthday Celebration

    • WVU Math Department Pi Day 3.14K
